Food at Eden Village Camp

Healthy and delicious, farm to table

Meal time at Eden Village is a highlight of our program. At every meal, campers and staff gather around communal tables, either in our spacious dining hall or shaded outdoor dining area, and join in singing, giving thanks and sharing about the day's events.

Campers taste the bounty of their farm harvests in three varied, tasty, nutritious, Kosher, and mostly vegetarian/pescatarian meals a day. Campers assist our creative chefs in preparing meals with love and care, using local and organic ingredients as often as possible. Much of our food is supplied by our own farm — run in partnership with the Jewish Farm School — and is supplemented with produce from farmers right here in Putnam Valley. Because nurturing minds and bodies includes eating well, we are committed to providing kid-friendly food that campers will find both enjoyable and nourishing.

Shabbat dinner is particularly special because campers have created most of the feast. One bunk might bake challah for the whole community in outdoor cob ovens, while another bunk might offer fresh berries they picked along the lake trail.

On Sundays, we have an outdoor barbecue with chicken and turkey burger options as well as veggie options. Any meat served is always both Kosher and organic.

Why do we serve so little meat?

Our mostly vegetarian diet fulfills Eden Village Camp's core value of sustainability. Diet is one of the most significant ways we can reduce our resource consumption and carbon footprint.

Special Food Needs?

We are able to accommodate most special food needs; please let us know about them in your application.

What about Kashrut?

Our kitchen is vegetarian and also serves fish. The meat options offered during Sunday barbecues are all hekshered Kosher and organic. We thoroughly wash and look over produce to make sure it’s free of bugs.

Permaculturists hard at play

In our efforts to learn more about the world around us, we've included a background image of one of the plant species native to our campgrounds. On this page you can find the:
