Our Hiring
We train child development specialists. The average age of our staff is significantly higher than that of most camps. Our staff training is longer than average and continues all summer long; we pride ourselves on maintaining the highest standards of child care. Our application and interview process is designed to make sure that Eden Village Camp is a solid match - we are an unusual camp! We do thorough reference and background checks. Our goal is to ensure that our campers have an amazing experience that lasts well beyond their summer at Eden Village!
Our staff are expected to embrace and practice these staff tenets of Eden Village Camp:
- Be a hero! Provide our campers with hope wherever they need it! Simply being at camp this summer does not make you a hero; it is a choice you will have to make on a daily and hourly basis.
- Practice awareness at all times, not only of ourselves and our actions, but of safety, punctuality, campers' energy level, and our campers' and coworker's needs.
- Campers are our priority. This means making sure campers are fed before you eat, that activities are geared to the campers' enjoyment over your own, and your personal life is set aside while working with campers. Staff put the needs of the campers ahead of their own - for 10 weeks, 6 days a week, 24 hours a day.
- Practice clean communication. If you have a problem with someone, you go directly to that person and talk about it in an emotionally-intelligent manner. Most people think they are great at this, but in practice it is a rare skill. We train towards this during staff training. How many places you know of where clean communication is truly practiced? Eden Village Camp needs to be a place where this happens..
- We require flexible staff who are happily ready to chip in doing anything. We are a small camp and you can count on being asked to do things that are beyond your current expectations and job description. Some people can do this while keeping their spirits high and motivating others along the way. Many other people chip in with a grudge. It's the former who will do well at camp.
The Staff Experience
You will have to work hard. The campers will ask a lot of you. The camp will ask a lot of you. You will ask a lot of you. We are looking for staff who are excited about this challenge. Camp isn't for everyone. You have to put your needs behind the children's and the camps for the entire summer. You have to be happy to eat with kids, sleep with kids, teach kids... that isn't something everyone is able to do, or able to be happy doing.
Days at camp are long and juicy. In one day, you may dress up like carrot, swim with a camper who needs a buddy, comfort a crying camper, clean up a spill, laugh with all of your laughter, and read your campers softly to sleep at night.
We'll feed you incredibly delicious and healthy food, provide fresh air and water, and expect you to pace yourself, get sleep when you need it, and work just as strong at the end of the summer as in the beginning.
We expect you to be a very good big brother or sister while mixing parental responsibility with the compassion of a best friend. Although you will be overseeing groups, each individual camper deserves and requires direct attention, care and supervision. Our mission is lofty, and the groups of campers may be large, but our job is to care for individuals.
Full Time Opportunites

Internships
Anafim Summer Internship
The Anafim Summer internship is a special 9-week staff development program for rising high school seniors, bridging the transition from camper to staff member at Eden Village. Anafim means "branches"; our Anafim interns will branch out as they learn principles of Jewish environmental education, challenge themselves as community leaders, practice ancient Jewish agriculture and wilderness skills, and cut their teeth in our pioneering organic kitchen.
Program participants are staff members trained during staff training to take on daily responsibilities in our organic farm program, innovative kitchen, administration, operations, and across the spectrum of our specialty areas including wilderness, herbalism, arts, and pulse. Anafim interns receive daily guidance and training from their program mentor throughout the summer and spend evenings participating in leadership development programs, skill-building seminars, recreational activities, and thought-provoking study with their mentor and our senior program specialists. Anafim interns will usually integrate with the camp program for Camp Shmooze (structured free time), waterfront time, and large all-camp programs.
Our Anafim interns live simply with the earth as they farm, practice wilderness skills, learn organic cooking, and camp all summer in their own outdoor space. They cook many of their meals in their outdoor kitchen. Interns have access to bathrooms, showers, and their own indoor lounge throughout the summer. The Anafim program will include extended wilderness immersions and a multi-day backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail.
Anafim interns are considered staff members, and supervised and guided by their Anafim Program Mentor. Interns who commit to the entire 9-week program receive room and board compensation for the summer. A limited number of fee-based, partial-summer internships are also available.
Interested candidates should apply using our online application.

Anafim Spring Internship with the Jewish Farm School
The Anafim Spring internship offers high school seniors meaningful challenges and opportunities: to develop outdoor-living and leadership skills; to farm, prepare and cook as part of a vibrant farm-to-table lifestyle; to explore the wisdom of Jewish agricultural and social texts; to live in a vibrant, pluralistic Jewish community with the Jewish Farm School at Eden Village Camp.
In Spring 2012, the Jewish Farm School will begin the farming season and high school internship program for 10-20 students. Our interns will spend most weekdays in May living on site, working on the farm, learning about Jewish connections with the environment, and training to serve as the next generation of leaders in the Jewish community.
